Adolpho Veloso ABC AIP scooped Best Cinematography at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards for his remarkable work on Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams yesterday (7 December).

Runner-up was Autumn Arkapaw Durald ASC, whose lensing of Sinners has already seen her take plaudits from the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

Speaking about his connection to the story of Train Dreams, Veloso told British Cinematographer: “It was like, ‘This feels like a cinematographer’s life.’ [Main character Robert] Grainer’s life just felt so much like mine, going out somewhere new, spending months there away from your family, and then sharing your life in a very intense way with a bunch of different people that become your family.”

Elsewhere, One Battle After Another won yet another Best Picture prize, with its LAFCA scoop following success at the Gotham Awards and NYFCC Awards.

The film also saw Paul Thomas Anderson win Best Director and Teyana Taylor take Best Supporting Performance.

Jafar Panahi continued his award-laden hot streak with Best Screenplay for It Was Just an Accident and Hannah Beachler took Best Production Design for Sinners.

Meanwhile, Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein were awarded Best Editing for Marty Supreme and The Secret Agent was named Best Film Not in the English Language.

The full list of winners and runners-up is available on the LAFCA website.
