Creative industries minister Ian Murray has announced the appointment of six new members to the BFI’s Board of Governors, chaired by Jay Hunt OBE, who worked closely with DCMS on the recruitment process.

The new BFI governors are Tanya Cordrey, Mark Herbert, Ganan Kanagathurai, Hakan Kousetta, Ryan Prince and Jane Tranter (Wales governor).

Each Board member serves a term of four years and starts this month, with the exception of Ryan Prince, who starts in July.

Recruitment for a new BFI governor to represent Scotland is ongoing.

The secretary of state has also reappointed BFI governors Monica Chadha, Elizabeth Karlsen, Laura Miele and Edgar Wright for a further four-year term.

They will rejoin a Board that also includes Michael Birshan, Declan Keeney (Northern Ireland governor), Nell Whitley and chair Jay Hunt.

The new 14 strong BFI Board of Governors will support the BFI, and its Executive team led by CEO Ben Roberts, to deliver its 10-year Screen Culture strategy, as the UK’s lead organisation for film, television and the moving image reaches its centenary in 2033.

Murray said: “The UK’s screen industries are a remarkable success story, generating billions for our economy and supporting thousands of jobs across the country.

“The BFI is central to that success, nurturing talent, driving international growth and building a diverse UK screen culture.

“I welcome these new members to the Board and congratulate those who have been reappointed. Together, they bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives that will help shape an exciting future for the UK screen sectors.”

Hunt added: “The BFI is the screen industry’s engine room, powering its cultural and industrial success, and I’m delighted to welcome six highly talented individuals to our Board to guide the organisation in the years ahead.

“Their experience across film, television, digital, business and technology will enhance an already world class BFI Board.”

More information on the new members is available on the BFI website
