Two men stand side by side, each wearing early 20th-century suits, evoking a scene worthy of the National Board of Review. The man on the left sports a maroon hat and striped suit; the man on the right, a blue cap and checked suit, holds an object in his hand.

Autumn Arkapaw Durald ASC has been honoured with the National Board of Review’s Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography award for her outstanding work on Sinners.

The DP of Ryan Coogler’s standout hit takes the prize in the same week she received Best Cinematography at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards

Speaking to British Cinematographer about the visual inspirations for the film, she said: “Ryan thought The Hateful Eight’s wider landscape photography could be impactful when we were conveying the flatness of the Mississippi Delta. I’m a huge fan of anamorphic so that approach excited me.

“It was also important to capture the sun dipping and rising along the horizon, something especially significant in telling our vampire story.”

Sinners also saw Coogler take Best Original Screenplay.

Elsewhere, One Battle After Another continued its stellar awards run with Best Film, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for Benicio Del Toro and Breakthrough Performance for Chase Infiniti.

Sorry, Baby saw Eva Victor scoop Best Directorial Debut and Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar took Best Adapted Screenplay for Train Dreams

It Was Just an Accident also continued its impressive streak as it was named Best International Film.
