Ron Collins has died at the age of 80 years in Sri Lanka, his place of residence, by natural causes.
He founded Optex International 1969-2005 employing over 70 employees. They were suppliers of production equipment to major film and video companies. They were innovators of camera lenses and the Aurasoft light used on many Hollywood movies.
Optex was awarded a Prime Emmy Award for the development of the first image intensifier for  TV ENG Cameras  during the Gulf War.
Prior to this he was, for some eight years or so, a newsreel cameraman for British Movietone News. One of the highlights was filming atop of Nelsons Column.Â
His career as a freelance cameraman took him all over the world filming documentaries, feature films and promotional videos. Â
