Nominees Announced for 2020 IMAGO International Awards for Cinematography

The nominees have been announced for the third IMAGO Awards ceremony, which will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 14th March 2020, with Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC aiming for yet another trophy for his work on 1917.
Having garnered Oscar, ASC, BSC and BAFTA accolades this year, Deakins will be one of three nominees for the ‘Feature Film’ award – presented by CVP, and looking to retain the award having triumphed at last year’s IMAGO awards in Belgrade for Blade Runner 2049. Also chosen for the award are Spionen (The Spy) lit by Belgian DP Anton Mertens SBC, and Dvēseļu Putenis (Blizzard of Souls) shot by Latvian cinematographer Valdis Celmins LGC.
There’s also another award opportunity for British DP James Friend BSC ASC, whose work on the ‘Bad News’ episode of Patrick Melrose has been recognised once again, having already garnered trophies at the 2018 Camerimage Festival, the 2019 ASC Awards and the 2019 BSC Awards.
BSC member Chris Menges will also be recognised at the ceremony with IMAGO’s award for ‘Lifetime Achievement in Cinematography’.

The IMAGO International Honorary Member´s Award – Astrid Heubrandtner AAC
Since 2009 she has been the president of the AAC, representing Austria at IMAGO where she was a guiding member of the Master Class Committee from 2007 until 2019 organizing 5 amazing IMAGO “Inspiration” international Cinematographers Forums, alongside her Committee colleagues.

Chris Menges BSC ASC is a master cinematographer, a generous mentor and a person of the highest integrity, which is why he will receive IMAGO’s 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award.
