Conversations with Camerawomen is a podcast that shines a light on women in the camera department around the world, in all stages of their careers, from trainees to loaders, operators, DITs and DPs, sharing their stories and experiences of being in the department.  Â
It was created by London-based camera operator Tanya Marar as a result of the limited availability of resources and relatable stories that women in the industry could listen to and be informed and inspired by. The episodes are casual, one-hour conversations that discuss all aspects of being in the camera department, from stepping up into new roles, understanding set dynamics, the challenges women sometimes still face in the industry, gender politics, as well as practical tools on how to improve your technical skills and how to go about finding work. Â
The podcast aims to create a space where women can openly share and discuss their careers and offers insight into how they navigate these roles and responsibilities. The first season kicks off with Steadicam operator Ilana Garrard ACO, who talks about her beginnings in the industry, how she likes to work with her team, the challenges she faced and tips for Steadicam operating. Hosted by Tanya Marar, the rest of the season will feature both women who have been in their current roles for a while, as well as those stepping up into new roles, while their journeys and experiences are still fresh.
Conversations with Camerawomen is available on Apple Podcasts and all other major platforms.Â
