Best Cinematography nominees announced for MTV VMAs

MTV has revealed the nominations for the 2022 Video Music Awards (VMAs), held in New Jersey on 28 August, including the six directors of photography up for the Best Cinematography category.

The highly anticipated awards highlight the artists whose cultural impact and work have transformed the music industry and created global conversations. Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X (seven each) lead this year’s nominations, closely followed by Doja Cat and Harry Styles (six each), and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd (five each).

Six videos have been nominated in the Best Cinematography category. These are:

  • Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar – ‘Family Ties’ (Columbia Records) – DP: Bruce Cole
  • Camila Cabello ft. Ed Sheeran – ‘Bam Bam’ (Epic Records) – DP David Bolen
  • Harry Styles – ‘As It Was’ (Columbia Records) – DP: Nikita Kuzmenko
  • Kendrick Lamar – ‘N95’ (phLang/Top Dawg Entertainment/Aftermath/Interscope Records) – DP: Adam Newport-Berra
  • Normani ft. Cardi B – ‘Wild Side’ – Keep Cool/RCA Records – DP: Nikita Kuzmenko
  • Taylor Swift – ‘All Too Well’ (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (Republic Records) – DP: Rina Yang
