Pat Scola has officially joined the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), cementing his status as one of the rising talents in contemporary cinematography.
The New York-born cinematographer earned the ASC Spotlight Award in 2021 for Pig and received a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination last year for We Grown Now. His feature credits include Lurker, A Quiet Place: Day One, Sing Sing, And Then I Go, and Monsters and Men. Scola recently wrapped The Death of Robin Hood, his third collaboration with director Michael Sarnoski following A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig.
Scola began his journey at Emerson College, where he worked on nearly 50 short films, music videos, and video-art projects. Reflecting on his early influences, he said, “Elie Smolkin [CSC] and Larkin Seiple were doing things that pushed me to elevate the work I was doing. The peer community really created a sense of healthy competition, with everyone trying to better themselves as a result.”
Before his feature work, Scola built a strong reputation in music videos and commercials, shooting for artists such as The Weeknd, Alt-J, Billie Eilish, Chaka Khan, and Mr. Little Jeans, and directing campaigns for Meta, Delta, AMEX, and Mercedes.
Recognised as one of Variety’s “10 Cinematographers to Watch” in 2021, Scola’s ASC membership marks the next milestone in a career defined by creativity, collaboration, and visual storytelling.
