The Golden Camera 300 for Lifetime Achievement at the Manaki Brothers Film Festival has been given to Anthony Dod Mantle DFF BSC ASC. The celebrated British cinematographer had already been honoured with the Manaki Brothers Special Golden Camera 300 in 2009 and with this new award, he cements his position in the festival’s Club of Greats.

Born in Oxfordshire in 1955, Dod Mantle studied at the National Film School in Copenhagen, later collaborating with directors like Lars von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg, and Danny Boyle. His collaboration with Boyle on Slumdog Millionaire earned him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 2009. He is also known for his influential lensing of three films from the Dogme 95 movement. Other highlights of his filmography include 28 Days Later, 127 Hours and T2 Trainspotting.

The Manaki Brothers Film Festival – named for early filmmaking pioneers Yanaki and Milton – is taking place from 19-26 August in Bitola, Macedonia, and focuses on top cinematographic talent. Founded in 1979, it is the world’s oldest film festival dedicated to cinematography. Past recipients of the Golden Camera 300 include Chris Menges BSC ASC, Luciano Tovoli ASC AIC, and Sir Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC.

Dod Mantle was welcomed to Bitola on 18 August by festival director Simeon Moni Damevski to accept the award.
