Opened in September, Figment Studio is the product of a strategic collaboration between leading industry players to create Thailand’s premier virtual production facility.
The Studio Park, StageFor Co. Ltd., and Supreme Studio Co. Ltd. have invested over 200 million baht (£4.6 million) into this state-of-the-art venture. Featuring world-class technology, including Brompton Technology’s Tessera LED processing, Figment Studio seamlessly integrates virtual and real worlds, setting a new benchmark for Thai productions on the international stage.
Mr. Chayanont Ulit, Figment Studio’s managing director, says: “Our studio was born from the collaboration of business partners. These include The Studio Park, home to Thailand’s largest sound stage and a 216-rai (345,600m²) filming location in Samut Prakan, renowned for hosting major Hollywood productions, alongside StageFor Co. Ltd., experts in XR and virtual production, and Supreme Studio Co. Ltd., pioneers in bringing cutting-edge virtual production technology to Thailand and Southeast Asia. We were fortunate to have these companies onboard from day one, contributing invaluable knowledge and expertise.”
Committed to helping local production professionals access VP and ICVFX technology, Figment Studio’s mission is to transform the facility into a hub for learning and experimenting with new creative ideas. “We believe this will foster sustainable growth for Thailand’s film industry as a whole, and position Thailand as the centre and destination for filmmaking in the Southeast Asian region,” Mr. Chayanont explains.
The studio features an impressive ROE Visual DM 2.6 LED wall measuring 28m by 5m and a 6m by 3m Carbon CB3 ceiling, all driven by four 4K Tessera SX40 LED processors and nine Tessera XD 10G data distribution units. The LED panels were calibrated with Brompton’s Hydra advanced measurement system at the manufacturer’s factory to ensure they are Brompton HDR-ready and can fully support Rec2020 colour space. This advanced setup supports both 2D and 3D workflows, utilising a combination of disguise vx4, Unreal Engine N-Display, Stype Redspy tracking, Bolt and Optitrack for motion capture and Virtual Scouting (Simulcam).
Mr. Chayanont also highlights the studio’s expert team, which includes VP Technical Director, Noppon, who brings extensive experience from working with Netflix and on FX Network’s Alien: Earth production. The team also includes Damon H Chung, the studio’s VP Producer, known for his deep industry knowledge. “When you work with us, you can be confident you’ll achieve your desired results,” he adds.
Brompton’s award-winning Tessera processors were specifically chosen for their Hollywood-standard capabilities, providing the exceptional colour accuracy and high image quality essential for film production. “Brompton is a robust choice for demanding video applications,” says Mr. Chayanont, reflecting on his decision to invest in the company’s industry-leading LED video processing technology.
With three Netflix projects and one production with FX Networks already completed this year, Figment Studio is gearing up for a major project next year. “We are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of virtual production in Thailand,” Mr. Chayanont exclaims.
“It’s so rewarding to see our Tessera processors and the latest software features play a crucial role in advancing the creative and technical capabilities of Figment Studio,” concludes Elijah Ebo, Director of APAC Operations at Brompton Technology. “Their team’s commitment to excellence in virtual production reflects our passion for providing the best LED video processing technology, and it’s no surprise that major clients like Netflix and FX trust them to bring their boldest visions to life.”
