Mar 10, 2023
The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) has launched season two of its popular Meet the Producer podcast, hosted by Jason Solomons and sponsored by Production Service Network (PSN).
Once again, film critic, presenter and debut producer Jason Solomons sits down in conversation with six leading producers working in film and high-end television, gaining unique insights into their individual careers and experiences in the field of screen producing.
The six new episodes, which are now available on all podcast platforms, feature interviews with: Academy Award and BAFTA-winner Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man, Man on Wire); BAFTA-winner and Academy Award-nominee Malte Grunert (All Quiet on the Western Front, Land of Mine); Alexandra Derbyshire (Paddington 1 & 2, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy); Keith Beauchamp (Till, The Injustice Files); Academy Award and BAFTA-winner Iain Canning (The Power of the Dog, Lion) with fellow See-Saw Films producer Joanna Laurie (The Son, The Limehouse Golem); and Yvonne Isimeme Ibazebo (Rye Lane, Guerilla);
“As the industry gears up for next week’s Oscars, our new season of Meet the Producer sponsored by PSN offers listeners another rare chance to delve deep into what this multi-faceted and often complex role entails,” said Lyndsay Duthie, PGGB CEO. “Our incredible line-up features established producing talent with multiple awards to their names and others who are steadily gaining in profile due to their outstanding work; including of course Malte Grunert, the producer behind one of this year’s biggest awards season successes, who is on the cusp of winning what could be his first Academy Award.”
“I am thrilled to be working with the PGGB on another season of Meet The Producer,” said Jason Solomons. “As I discovered in the first shows, there are so many ways of producing and I can’t wait to find out more approaches to the art, craft and business of it. As my own experience producing my first films progresses, I’m looking forward to learning some more ‘tricks of the trade’, getting some practical ‘next steps’ advice and hearing about the multitude of experiences my guests have had bringing their stories to screen. I’m particularly excited to be meeting the producers during the buzz of awards season so I’ll be finding out how a producer navigate the highs and lows of that particular journey. You never know when it could happen to you…”
“The awards season buzz is contagious,” added the PSN’s Michael Moffett. “At PSN, we’re excited to know that select producers of this past year’s standout work relied on the local film support of our exclusive Partner service companies when filming abroad. Our collaborations with filmmakers depend on trust that is often built on the peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing that is the cornerstone of The Production Guild’s Meet the Producer podcast. So we invite one and all to listen in for valuable insights from the producers featured in season two.”
PGGB’s Meet the Producers podcast sees guests discussing the role of the producer and the many different facets of the job, covering everything from what attracts them to new projects, to financing models and ‘the art of the deal’, to managing budgets and pressured schedules.
Series one launched in 2022 featuring: Jed Mercurio OBE (Line of Duty, Bodyguard); Stefan D’Bart & Ward Trowman of Bromantics (Boiling Point, A Violent Man); Ronni Ancona & Sally Phillips of Captain Dolly (Palme Dog, Classic); Colin Vaines (Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, Coriolanus); Elizabeth Karlsen, Number 9 Films (Carol, Colette); and Roopesh Parekh (Willow, His Dark Materials: The Subtle Knife).
Series two of PGGB’s Meet the Producers podcast is now available on the Production Guild website and all platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
