On 14 December, The British Short Film Awards took over the Everyman Screen on the Green to host its second annual event and the first in-person event, hosted by Alex Zane for the second year running.
Around 100 film makers, actresses and actors, were welcomed to the venue in London, including Larry Lamb, Twinnie Lee Moore and Rory Keenan.
“We had a brand-new award design this year – a gold statuette. Over forty awards were given out and with them came fantastic acceptance speeches,” said British Short Film Awards Founder Tommy Clarke. “After the winners collected their awards, they headed straight for an interview with our camera crew in front of our fantastic step and repeat board.”
Cinematographer Rick Joaquim SASC won the award for Best Cinematography (sponsored by British Cinematographer) for his lensing of Adjustments. Commenting on the win, Joaquim said: “I am extremely grateful and proud to have won this award. Thank you to the British Short Film Awards and for the opportunity to my director Harry Mackrill, Nisha Oza and writer Nicola May-Taylor.
“Adjustments was a really special project for me and I really resonated with the heart and soul of it. I had the best time working on this. It was also one of the first narrative projects I DP’d after moving to London a year and a half ago. Thank you to the cast and crew on this production as well as Panavision London for all the support on this project.”

BSFA supported Hear Art this year who are an amazing non-profit organisation that aims to bring the deaf and hearing communities together through film making. They created three film this year that had a crew of 50% deaf and 50% hearing.
The event was supported by British Cinematographer, Leica, Mermaid Gin, Fisherman’s Friends, and The British Snack Company, who all provided amazing items for the goody bags.
“It was a fantastic evening celebrating amazing film makers and short films and we look forward to next year,” said Clarke.
