Remembering Wally Byatt Associate BSC ACO (1929 – 2024)
Jan 15, 2024
It is with great sadness that the BSC announce that Wally Byatt Associate BSC ACO, passed away on Thursday 11th January, age 94, after a short illness in hospital.
He always liked to say that his career started in 1945 when he was sixteen, right at the end of the war when he assisted on a documentary film about Scottish mineworkers. This was the beginning.
Some of his film credits were The Italian Job, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Never say Never Again, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and A Bridge Too Far.
Robin Vidgeon BSC and many other members agree that he was a brilliant and skilful operator, as well as a kind and generous man. A great loss to the industry.
Our thoughts go out to his daughters Lucy, Sophie and Celia and his grand daughter Sophia during this difficult time.
The funeral and celebration of Wally Byatt’s life will be held on Tuesday 12 March at 2.30pm at St James’s Church, Sussex Gardens, London W2 3UD. Please also join us after the service for a drink at the Roseate House Hotel, 3 Westbourne Terrace, Hyde Park Gardens, London W2 3UL.
We welcome all those who would like to attend, please RSVP to: sophiebyatt@hotmail.com
