The UK-based Australian cinematographer Michael Elphick ACS has died.

Elphick enjoyed a successful career in London after moving to the UK from Sydney in the 1970s. According to his manager Gregory Apprey, “he was always more than willing to assist and encourage the new and up-and-coming cinematographers who regularly approached him.”

Elphick’s work spanned a wide range of narrative and commercial projects, which took him around the world. Highlights of his filmography include the features Okugi (dir. Tim White), Just Ines (dir. Marcel Grant) and Don’t Call Back (dir. Christopher Nicholson).

As well as being a member of the prestigious Australian Cinematographers Society, Elphick belonged to the UK’s Guild of British Camera Technicians (GBCT).

A dedicated website has been set up for tributes to the cinematographer.
