Cooke Gallery and test space now open in central London

Mar 8, 2024

Cooke announce the opening of Cooke Gallery and test space in the heart of London’s Fitzrovia, located at 39 Newman Street, W1T 1QB.

Cooke Gallery was created to eulogise the art of cinematography and provide inspiration to professionals and film lovers alike.

The inaugural exhibition is FOCUS.

Focus is one of the key tools in cinematography. When we think about camera focus, we tend to think of how sharp a frame looks, but it’s much more than that. In visual storytelling, focus directly impacts how the audience may perceive the subject matter. Directors and cinematographers use focus to convey a message about the story whether as a literal device, emphasising a specific detail; or subliminally to evoke an emotional response to the material or scene.

Cooke Gallery is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am- 5pm, by appointment. Please sign up on Cooke website to visit.

In the same location, the Cooke test space has been designed to support cinematographers and creatives with a purpose-built facility to test all Cooke lenses on a range of key manufacturers’ digital cameras, covering high-end cine and mirrorless.

In the new space cinematographers can change wall surface textures or swap backgrounds for Colorama papers or green screen, as one would in a photographic studio. The space has employed space-saving asymmetric lights on dimmer controls to evenly key the background and back light subjects. Also on offer is an array of leading lighting options using the latest LED technology that combine controlling colour options and lighting FX.

Da Vinci Resolve suite with HDR monitoring will be added shortly, so cinematographers can grade their transcoded material or produce LUT’s on site to review how Cooke lenses respond to their needs.

To make an appointment, please use the form on the Cooke website.
