Brompton Technology helps CJP advance in UK education market

Jul 22, 2024

Originally only seen on sets of large-scale Hollywood productions like The Mandalorian and most recently in Barbie and Dune blockbusters, virtual production (VP) is becoming an important element of the modern day education.

Leading institutions like Sunderland University, University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and Solent University Southhampton have embraced Brompton LED processing as part of their VP offering, providing their students and teaching staff with the real-world experience, allowing them to creatively utilise this innovative solution in their work.

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions has been offering a wide range of services in the broadcast, corporate, education and sports sectors, leveraging partner technologies like Brompton’s Tessera LED processors to enable organisations, businesses, and community groups to maximise their capabilities through advanced video solutions.

“Education is a considerable focus for us as a company,” explains Kieran Phillips, Director of Sales and Marketing at CJP. “Digital storytelling and technical innovation are key to almost every industry now, and an increasing number of educational institutions are enhancing their teaching and research capabilities in line with this trend. Sunderland University, Solent University, and UCA exemplify the integration of state-of-the-art LED volumes into their facilities, benefiting students across various fields of study.”

CJP has also collaborated with StartUp Croydon, a charity and social enterprise which provides support for start ups and small businesses. Here, a virtual studio and post-production facility was installed to provide digital access for local businesses and community groups. “For this initiative, we used Absen LED panels, sourced through UK distributor PSCo, powered by advanced Brompton LED processing for their Creative Digital Lab,” Phillips says. “The client was delighted with the facility, seeing it as a fantastic resource for businesses in Croydon, supporting education and communities, and being a centre for all sorts of collaborative creativity. ”

Phillips notes that there is a growing trend among universities who increasingly value the potential of virtual production and are keen to invest in high-end, future-proof solutions like Brompton Tessera LED processors. For the University of Sunderland, CJP was tasked with creating a multi-purpose studio, that would feel like a real broadcast production centre, for its media faculty. “They were were familiar with Brompton through their past work and this gave them confidence that the solution we were proposing would meet their needs.”

Feedback from both the students and lecturers has been positive, with many noting how working with virtual production technology is helping them gain valuable skills. “This is an exciting opportunity for students to get access to real-world equipment, and the technology opens the door to discovering a variety of roles in the industry,” Phillips continues.

Patrick Goodden, Brompton’s Technical Sales Manager (UK & Ireland), agrees, noting that by making these technologies accessible, students can experience different roles in a variety of sectors, from small content creation firms to major film studios, preparing them for a dynamic and competitive industry landscape. “We’re thrilled to see how Brompton’s commitment to advancing virtual production technology, and the excellent work of companies like CJP, positively influences educational institutions by expanding students’ career opportunities,” Goodden says.

In addition to creating virtual production facilities for its clients, CJP has recently launched its own demo studio at its base in Whitchurch, Herefordshire. The team is now exploring opportunities to offer work to placements for students, providing hands-on exposure to CJP’s virtual production facility.

Partnering with panel manufacturers like Absen, AOTO and INFiLED, Phillips underscores their approach as a vendor-agnostic, independent systems integrator, always seeking to use the most suitable technology for every project.

“Whether project is educational, commercial, or broadcast  it’s paramount to choose the right equipment for each specific task,” concludes Phillips. “We are known for our solutions-driven approach, consistently overcoming challenges and delivering exceptional results. We never overpromise; instead, we focus on what we can reliably deliver. Having partners we trust to provide optimal performance allows us to confidently say ‘yes, we can’ to our clients, and Brompton Technology’s LED processors, combined with its Tessera software, empower us to lead innovation in virtual production environments.”
