British Cinematographer teams up with Fighting Spirit Film Festival
Jul 26, 2022
British Cinematographer’s newest partnership puts the art of action cinema at the fore as it joins forces with Fighting Spirit Film Festival.
Set to light up London’s Stratford Picturehouse from 10-11 September, Fighting Spirit Film Festival celebrates the best martial arts films from the UK and beyond. The festival was established in 2016 to increase visibility and awareness of this underappreciated genre and has since gone from strength to strength. As well as the main London event, there is also a satellite festival that takes place every year in Birmingham.
The festival’s line-up ranges from grassroots productions to big-budget films, championing up-and-coming action talent. Along with the screenings, another key part of the event is the Fighting Spirit Film Awards, which focuses on the short film programme. Among the jury members this year are renowned martial artist and actress Cynthia Rothrock, British film editor Christopher CF Chow BFE, and top Spanish stuntman Joaquín Ortega.
British Cinematographer is proud to partner with Fighting Spirit Film Festival on two categories at its awards: Best International Short Film Cinematography and Best British Short Film Cinematography. The winners of both awards will each be featured in a future issue of British Cinematographer magazine in a special opportunity to showcase their work. In addition, the winner of the International award will receive a complimentary one-year digital subscription, while the winner of the British award will get a complimentary one-year digital and print subscription.
“We are very excited to partner with British Cinematographer. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase the creativity of action filmmakers around the world with one of the most prestigious publications in the industry, ” said Weng Yu, assistant director of Fighting Spirit Film Festival.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Fighting Spirit Festival to help showcase the talent and passion of this exciting sector of the filmmaking community. We look forward to celebrating the winners of this year’s cinematography award categories at the Fighting Spirit Awards and through our print and digital coverage,” said Zoe Mutter, editor of British Cinematographer.
