
BAFTA has announced the Cinematography longlist for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards.
Round Two of voting kicks off today (9 January) and will determine the nominations – to be unveiled via global livestream on Tuesday 27 January at 12:00 GMT from BAFTA’s HQ, 195 Piccadilly in London.
Round Three of voting will determine the winners.
Ten films will advance in the Cinematography category:
- Ballad of a Small Player – James Friend ASC BSC
- Bugonia – Robbie Ryan BSC ISC
- Die My Love – Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC ISC
- F1 – Claudio Miranda ASC ACC
- Frankenstein – Dan Laustsen ASC DFF
- Hamnet – Łukasz Żal PSC
- Marty Supreme – Darius Khondji ASC AFC
- One Battle After Another – Michael Bauman
- Sinners – Autumn Durald Arkapaw ASC
- Train Dreams – Adolpho Veloso ABC AIP
Members of the Cinematography chapter vote to determine the longlist and the nominations. In the final round of voting, all film-voting members will vote for the overall winning film. 159 films were submitted for consideration.
Overall, Paul Thomas Anderson’s road movie with a difference, One Battle After Another, set a BAFTA Film Awards record, scoring 16 mentions.
Alongside Cinematography, its nods include Best Film, Best Director, and Adapted Screenplay.
Elsewhere, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners received 14 mentions apiece, including Cinematography.
Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme follows with 13 mentions, while Bugonia and Frankenstein both gained 12, with Sentimental Value and Wicked: For Good following behind with eight mentions each.
BAFTA Film Committee chair, Emily Stillman, said: “The presence of the British film industry across this global list is felt strongly – from our world-class talent, locations and infrastructure to scripts rooted in a distinctly British perspective.
“In a stand-out year for film, our 8,300 BAFTA voting members face a formidable task ahead.
“We are delighted BAFTA’s Film Awards longlists have become such an important part of awards season, giving the spotlight to a vast range of films, and we hope the public will enjoy watching and discussing them as much as we have.”
The EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London and broadcast as-live on BBC One and iPlayer and internationally.
The longlists for all 25 categories, including Best Film, Director, Casting, Documentary, Film Not in the English Language, the four performance categories, Children’s & Family Film category and more, are available on the BAFTA website.
