Kim and McCrae first time winners at BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2019

DPs Woo-hyung Kim and Lindsay McCrae were first time winners at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards this past weekend, taking home the accolades for The Little Drummer Girl and BBC’s Dynasties respectively.

The award for ‘Photography & Lighting: Fiction’ (sponsored by ScreenSkills High-End Television Skills Fund) was won by Korean cinematographer Woo-hyung Kim for his work on the six-part TV mini-series The Little Drummer Girl – adapted from the novel by John le Carre – which aired in the UK on the BBC and in the US on AMC in late-2018.

Kim was selected ahead of the three other nominees, all members of the BSC – award-winning James Friend BSC for Patrick Melrose, Balasz Bolygo BSC HSC’s lighting on Collateral and Julian Court BSC’s work on Episode 7 of Killing Eve.

Sponsored by The Farm, the ‘Photography – Factual’ accolade went to Lindsay McCrae, who served as Director of Photography on the ‘Emperor’ episode of BBC’s natural history series Dynasties.

Other nominees were Daniel Dewsbury, Stuart Bernard and Jonny Ashton for The Mighty Redcar, Jaimie Granston for Michael Palin in North Korea, and the camera team behind the series Earth’s Natural Wonders: Surviving Against the Odds.
