Industry Wide Shot / Agents

BY: ROBERT SHEPHERD

CALL MY AGENT

Agents are the industry’s behind-the-scenes connectors, shaping careers by pairing talent with projects and steering negotiations across a fast-evolving global screen landscape.

Instead of the Shooting Summary feature in this issue, we turn our focus to the agencies themselves. Working just outside the frame, agents play a crucial role across production and career development, identifying talent, brokering deals and matching creatives to work in film, television and commercials. As the industry becomes increasingly global and fragmented, they remain a steady presence—balancing opportunity, negotiation and long-term relationships. Here we spotlight some of the agencies shaping the industry today.

Agency perspective

Working with a smaller and curated roster allows for a much deeper level of engagement with each client’s work and lends time to forge relationships. In cinematography especially, where voice and visual identity are so integral, representation becomes less about volume and more about careful positioning.

There’s also a growing emphasis on visual presence. It’s not just about credits, but how the work is seen – as an agency we invest time in shaping how our clients are presented, ensuring their portfolios reflect not only technical ability but composition and perspective.

We support cinematographers navigating between commercials, television and long-form film while maintaining a coherent creative identity. The industry is increasingly fluid and part of our role is guiding that movement strategically.

Ultimately, the advantage of a boutique approach is time—time to understand each client’s ambitions, to build relationships with collaborators, and to be proactive in shaping opportunities.

Agency Perspective

WPA is one of the leading agencies for BTL talent globally, representing the industry’s top cinematographers, producers, production designers, costume designers, editors, and more. We are committed to securing our artists the most prestigious projects with the finest creative teams. We understand that the industry spans a broad range of budget levels, and a defining part of our ethos is helping the talent we represent navigate this varied landscape with confidence and clarity. Crucially, WPA refuses to define our clients by any single type of work or project, believing that great artists cannot and should not be put in a box. Instead, we take a long-term view of every career we represent, building lasting relationships and growing alongside our talent through every stage of their professional journey. WPA also aims to be production-friendly, extending to producers and execs the same direct, transparent, and timely communication that our clients have come to expect. WPA is proud to be patron members of the BSC, members of WFTV and sponsors of the UK MVAs.
