Twickenham Film Studios supports UK independent film industry as sponsor of KIFF
Jun 28, 2022
Twickenham Film Studios is to support the inaugural Kingston International Film Festival (KIFF) as a Premiere Partner for its Awards Ceremony.
KIFF is a major part of Kingston’s culture-led revival – aiming to bring the community together for three days of screenings, workshops and events. TFS is extremely proud to be supporting this festival which will celebrate the local independent film industry, the backbone of its business.
This year’s festival edition is supported by BAFTA award-winning film director Mike Newell as well as Academy Award-winning actress Dame Vanessa Redgrave. The programme for the inaugural festival is available on KIFF’s website, including more than 50 events such as screenings, workshops and social events.
Piers Read, co-owner of Twickenham Film Studios, will take part in the exciting industry-expert panel ‘The urgent need to fight for the survival of our small independent producers who are the bedrock of the industry’. As part of the discussion, he will explore the importance of skills and training initiatives for emerging talent to develop the independent film market. This is a cause dear to TFS, which has already developed and upskilled outstanding talent with origins in independent film, such as Tim Cavagin, Re-recording Mixer at the Studios behind Academy Award winner Bohemian Rhapsody, and Dan Turner, Senior Sound Mix Technician, behind BAFTA winner Last Night in Soho.
The panel will take place on Saturday, the 25th of June, at 4pm, at The Rose Theatre. On the following day at 8 pm, Piers will present the Twickenham Film Studios Award for Best Feature at KIFF’s Awards Ceremony, also at Rose Theatre.
Piers has extensive experience of urban regeneration having curated and operated thriving creative neighbourhoods in London, Birmingham and Manchester, consisting of Film + TV production facilities, creative workspaces and hospitality destinations. He has worked in Film and TV since his teenage years, resulting in producing credits on the world renowned and award-winning global hits The Inbetweeners and Peep Show.
Piers has since left his mark on the UK studio industry. Acquiring Wimbledon Studios from Thames Television in 2010 before founding The Creative District Company and TIME + SPACE Studios, which bought Twickenham Film Studios in 2020. Piers oversees growth strategies for the company, driving stakeholder engagement with a strong emphasis on enterprise initiatives for start-ups and SMEs based at our campuses.
