GREIG FRASER ASC ACS ON DUNE: PART TWO

CHRISTOPHER ROSS BSC ON SHŌGUN
When an English pirate is shipwrecked on the shores of feudal Japan, he finds himself part of a game of thrones among warlords in TV series Shōgun. Christopher Ross BSC reflects on setting the look for this rich tapestry of 17th-century Japan, including the influence of the traditional Jidaigeki film.
FLORIAN HOFFMEISTER BSC ON TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY
In Alaska – True Detective’s first cold-weather setting – two rural cops investigate the disappearance of eight men from a research station. Florian Hoffmeister BSC recounts his highlights from the shoot, which took place in Iceland, and the importance of a great support network as a cinematographer.
KIRA KELLY ASC AND MAGDALENA GÓRKA ASC PSC ON ECHO
As the first Deaf, indigenous and amputee character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Maya Lopez marks a refreshing new direction for the superhero genre. Find out how Echo’s cinematographers Kira Kelly ASC and Magdalena Górka ASC PSC brought this incredible character’s story to the screen.

Like its predecessor, the small-screen adaptation of Doug Liman’s 2005 film follows two strangers, pretending to be married, who are sent on espionage missions. Tasked with crafting a slick visual language for the Prime Video thriller were Christian Sprenger ASC, Stephen Murphy BSC ISC and Cody Jacobs.
FRANZ LUSTIG ON ANSELM
Anselm marks one of two 2023 collaborations (the other being Perfect Days) between DP Franz Lustig and director Wim Wenders. Go behind the scenes on the shoot, which followed artist Anselm Kiefer at his remarkable studio complex in France, and its unusual use of 3D.
LENNERT HILLEGE NSC ON OCCUPIED CITY
Steve McQueen’s ambitious documentary is a portrait of Amsterdam past and present, where calm narration from Melanie Hyams detailing shocking atrocities from World War II collides with current-day cinematic documentary images. For cinematographer Lennert Hillege NSC, the project marked a “special filmmaking experience”.
