Showlight 2025, the quadrennial global networking event for lighting practitioners from all genres of lighting, takes place between 19-22 May in Dijon, France.
Renowned for its eclectic mix of speakers, from cinematography to architecture, theatre to live events, fashion to large scale installation, and everything in between, Showlight is the ultimate forum in which to exchange ideas and inspirations over three glorious days of networking.
Past Showlights have hosted many speakers from the world of cinematography including Freddie Francis BSC, Sue Gibson BSC, Roberto Schaefer ASC, Hiro Narita ASC and Phil Meheux BSC. Showlight 2025 continues the tradition with an exciting programme of speakers offering the strongest representation from the world of film to date:
David Mullen ASC will present Lighting Theatrical Spaces in a Period Setting for ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’.
Thierry Goron will explore the subject of using local resources to make films in countries with very little or no existing film industry.
Roger Simonsz BSC will discuss how to control the uncontrollable, using examples from “Engrenages/Spiral” and “Piper” to explore means of achieving control on location, with the help of Schrödinger’s dimmer.
And finally, we are very excited to announce that Peter Macdonald BSC, DGA, DGGB will be the guest of honour, closing the conference by dipping into his many entertaining anecdotes about the film industry from his 70+ year career.
On the social side, Showlight offers plenty of time to network and socialise in between Papers in a relaxed and convivial environment, enjoy face-to-face discussions with lighting designers, manufacturers and students, and browse the supporting exhibition that runs alongside the Papers presentations.
Delegates also enjoy refreshments in the morning and afternoon breaks, daily lunches, a Welcome Reception hosted by the City of Dijon in the opulent historic setting of the Salle des Etat on Monday evening, a company-sponsored dinner on Tuesday evening, the newly introduced workshop programme on Wednesday afternoon and, of course, the grand Showlight Conference Dinner on Wednesday evening which takes place in a very special location (kept under wraps until the day!).
