RED Digital Cinema has announced that its V-Raptor [X] and Komodo-X camera systems will now be available with Nikon’s premier Z Mount. This new integration offers filmmakers enhanced flexibility in lens selection and a complete capture solution, from lens to sensor to codec.
RED Digital Cinema CEO Keiji Oishi stated, “This marks the beginning of RED and Nikon’s collaborative products, and it is an exciting first step in a new Z Cinema Series. By incorporating the Z Mount, RED is offering filmmakers more lens options than ever before, enabling greater artistic flexibility. This development opens up access to Nikon’s Z lineup, PL options, F Mount glass, and popular vintage lenses.”
The Z Mount’s shallow flange depth and wider diameter allow for lens designs that provide higher sharpness, superior aberration control, and improved low-light performance. Z lenses will deliver edge-to-edge detail and autofocus capabilities on both the V-Raptor [X] and Komodo-X cameras.
Key features, pricing and availability
The V-Raptor [X] Z Mount, known for its exceptional low-light performance, dynamic range, resolution, and high frame rates, is equipped with an 8K VV global shutter large format sensor. It is available for a suggested retail price of £29,995.
The Komodo-X Z Mount, featuring a 6K S35 global shutter sensor, offers frame rates of 6K at 80P and 4K at 120P, all within a compact form factor measuring 4x4x5 inches and weighing just 2.6 lbs. It is available for £6,995.
RED also announced new Z to PL Adapter Packs, which provide a robust PL mount solution for both V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X Z Mount shooters. There are four adapter pack options available, with shipments starting in spring 2025:

- RED V-Raptor [X] Z to PL with Electronic ND Adapter Pack: £3,500
- RED Komodo-X Z to PL Adapter Pack: £1,500
- RED Komodo-X Z to PL with Electronic ND Adapter Pack: £3,500
RF mount transition and trade-in programme
RED is also offering filmmakers the option to convert their RF mount versions of the V-Raptor[X] and Komodo-X cameras to the new Z Mount systems. The conversion costs £1,695 for the V-Raptor [X] and £1,595 for the Komodo-X.
