Britain’s largest independent film festival, Raindance celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022. Raindance is now taking further steps to galvanise its status within the industry by announcing that the festival has created an Advisory Committee of significant film industry figures to support Raindance in navigating the next 30 years and beyond.
Raindance conducted an in-house review on how the organisation can revitalise and renew its commitment to the British film industry. Raindance has now invited senior industry professionals with diverse and distinctive voices and experiences to join Raindance in navigating this exciting new phase and to strategically advise on preserving and enhancing its mission to support the next generation of emerging filmmakers both in the UK and around the world.
The festival has announced that the inaugural Raindance Advisory Committee comprises Lee Magiday, producer (The Favourite, The Lobster); Tiffany Kizito, manager of talent relations and awards (EMEA) at Netflix; Damian Spandley, director of programme & distribution Sales at Curzon Cinemas; Phil Hunt, producer and founder of Bankside Films and Head Gear Films; and Nick Rylance, head of film at ITV Studios.
Raindance founder Elliot Grove said: “It’s gratifying that Raindance is expanding yet again, and we’re privileged to welcome these talented people onto the inaugural Raindance Advisory Committee. I’m certain that their involvement and insight will further define Raindance’s position as an important, alternative, and independent voice within our industry.”
“I was so pleased to be asked to join the Advisory Board for the Raindance Film Festival,” said Lee Magiday. “It’s vital for us all to provide a pathway for aspiring new talent and do what we can to help emerging voices be heard and celebrated. Many helped me on my journey when starting off in grassroots filmmaking, and I’m very happy to be able to offer my guidance and support. The world of independent cinema is a very special place and we are stronger together.”
“I am honoured to join Raindance’s Advisory Board,” said Tiffany Kizito. “The Film Festival is such a pillar in our industry and has done a wonderful job of championing and supporting independent cinema. Its inclusive nature has meant that it has helped pave the way for many filmmakers over the last 30 years and I look forward to being a part of its future journey.”
“Naturally, it’s a privilege and honour for me to be asked to provide advice and support to Raindance, an organisation that beats within the very heart of the UK independent film industry and that continues to defy the odds after 30 years of amazing work to nourish filmmakers and lovers of independent cinema,” said Damian Spandley.
“I’m incredibly proud to have experienced the sheer impact Raindance has had on our wider film community from its very beginnings over three decades ago when it had an instrumental impact on me,” said Phil Hunt. “We often forget the importance of education, giving back, and celebrating creativity in our busy lives, so I’m excited to work closer with an organisation championing these refreshing values.”
“I am delighted to be helping the Raindance family achieve their goals,” said Nick Rylance. “Anything which helps create a healthy support network for new and young industry creatives is totally worthwhile. It’s an honour to play a part.”
