RA Agency’s FUTURES programme focuses on providing support to black women working in the camera department, from trainee and assistant level upwards.

The programme involves mentoring, training workshops, producing BTS reels and shadowing cinematographers, and there is a dedicated space for FUTURES on RA’s website. RA also helps to distribute their CVs and handle/forward any enquiries.

Iman Ahmed

Iman Ahmed has joined RA’s FUTURES programme as a London-based camera trainee. So far she has credits on features Argyle and Who is Stan Smith? with DOPs George Richmond and Korsshan Schlauer respectively. She has also worked on commercials, music videos and short films. Ahmed, who is aspiring to be a DOP, is an alumna of London Screen Academy, a sixth-form academy founded by some of the UK’s most successful film producers at Working Title Films.

Samara Addai has started to make the step towards 2nd AC, with dailies on the feature A Beautiful Life (UK Unit) with DP Michael Sauer, along with various commercials with DPs Natalie Pitters and Kia Little.

Samara Addai

2nd AC Teresa Adamson has been working on dailies on these features: Red, White & Royal Blue (Amazon Studios) with DP Stephen Goldblatt BSC; The Kitchen (Netflix) with DP Wyatt Garfield; and The Strays (Netflix) with DP Adam Scarth.

RA is now developing paid shadowing opportunities for its FUTURES with established DPs on set, which will be launched later this year or early next year. They hope to collaborate with Screenskills ‘Make A Move’ programme. Teresa will be delivering her second part of the workshop at VMI to Samara on 2AC’ing and will be looking to deliver this to other FUTURES soon.
