PowerHouse VFX welcomes Alan Precourt and Caitlyn Tomasik to its team
May 21, 2021
PowerHouse VFX has announced the addition of two highly-talented VFX professionals to its rapidly-growing team of supervisors, producers and artists.
VFX supervisor Alan Precourt, who comes with a varied and eclectic background in digital animation, visual effects and production, joins the company following a two-year run as a supervisor at Blue Sky animation studio, where he brought his artistic eye and extensive technical expertise to projects including Spies in Disguise and the much-talked-about feature film project, Nimona.
Head of production Caitlyn Tomasik, who has been producing for PowerHouse as a freelancer for the past six months, had previously served as head of production for Alkemy-X and senior producer at Spontaneous.
“As we continue our growth and expansion, the addition of both Caitlyn and Alan will bring invaluable experience to our team,” said PowerHouse VFX executive producer, Ryan Cunningham. “Each demonstrates the core values of our company as well as having a tremendous rapport with the visual effects community.”
“I’m very excited to be joining the team at PowerHouse,” Tomasik enthused. “Part of the reason I’m here is because of Ed [Mendez] and Bob [Lowery], who started the company. I worked with them four years ago and I think it’s wildly impressive what they’ve built in such a short amount of time. I’m definitely excited to be part of PowerHouse as it continues to expand even further!”
Precourt began his career after developing a love for cinematography while studying film production at UCLA. He worked on camera crews until he was encouraged to combine his understanding of production with his love of computer programming. That led to work at Richard Edlund’s groundbreaking Boss Films and then to Digital Domain during that company’s storied age of innovation while the VFX work for Titanic was in full swing.
Since then, he has split his time between VFX and CG animation work at many of the leading companies in the industry, including the Walt Disney Company, DreamWorks, Sony Pictures ImageWorks, WETA Digital, Rhythm & Hues, Fuse FX, and more. This very significant experience in the field has given Precourt an incredible breadth of understanding about achieving excellence through many different production styles.
“Alan is a perfect complement to our team,” said PowerHouse senior VFX supervisor/chief creative officer Ed Mendez. “It’s rare to find somebody with his combination of on-set experience, live action production, expertise in the of animation that Blue Sky did so well and a thorough understanding of the kind of VFX work PowerHouse is known for. We are obviously very happy to have him working with us.”
“PowerHouse VFX is a nexus of tremendous talent,” noted Precourt. “They have set a reputation for setting a high quality bar and exceeding expectations, while fostering a talented team with a can-do spirit. It’s a unique place with a formidable future – one that I’m excited to join and push the envelope of what we can accomplish together in the service of art and to achieve our clients’ vision.”
