Oscars 2024: Cinematography nominations announced
Jan 23, 2024
The nominations for the 96th Oscars have been revealed, with the announcement of nominees taking place during a presentation at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
A total of 23 categories were announced as the movie-awards season hits its apex after a year that blasted off in July when both Barbie and Oppenheimer — aka Barbenheimer — hit cinemas on the same weekend.
After today’s nominations, Academy members will now cast their final votes from February 22-27 ahead of the Oscar ceremony March 10 live on ABC hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
The nominees for Cinematography are Hoyte van Hoytema ASC NSC FSF for Oppenheimer, Rodrigo Prieto ASC AMC for Killers of the Flower Moon, Robbie Ryan BSC ISC for Poor Things, Ed Lachman ASC for El Conde and Matthew Libatique ASC for Maestro.
Upon finding out the news of his Cinematography nomination, Libatique said: “This is an honour that will never get old. Thank you to all my fellow cinematographers in the Academy for bestowing this high honour. Thank you to the intrepid crew of Maestro and most of all thank you to Bradley Cooper for bringing me aboard this beautiful journey.”
