German optical manufacturer Leitz Cine GmbH has announced a new interchangeable G mount for its HEKTOR line of prime lenses, bringing the cine and photo-oriented glass into the Fujifilm ecosystem for the first time.
The addition means the HEKTOR lenses can now be used with Fujifilm’s GFX Eterna 55 extra large format cine camera as well as the GFX100 series of medium format mirrorless stills cameras. Customers can either purchase a HEKTOR lens pre-configured with the G mount or buy the mount separately and swap it themselves — a process the company describes as straightforward, requiring only basic tools.
The G mount joins an existing roster of interchangeable options that includes Sony E, Leica L, Canon RF, and Nikon Z, making the HEKTOR one of the more broadly compatible lens lines currently on the market.
Managing director Rainer Hercher framed the expansion as part of a wider strategy to stay in step with the camera industry. “As formats and camera systems continue to evolve, we are happy to be working with so many manufacturers to ensure that the creatives using their cameras have access to some of the most exciting new lenses like the Leitz HEKTOR series,” he said.
Though the HEKTOR lenses were originally designed for full frame coverage, Leitz Cine says they produce a larger image circle than strictly necessary for that format. Not every focal length in the range can be used in full open gate mode on the GFX sensors, but the company says all support traditional cinema aspect ratios with only minor edge cropping required on the widest ends.
