During a live event in London, education charity Into Film and global arts charity BAFTA co-hosted an International Women’s Day panel to coincide with National Careers Week for selected schools in the capital.
Film critic and broadcaster, Rhianna Dhillon, hosted the panel for secondary school and sixth-form goers about the importance of equal representation in the creative screen industry. Held at Empire Cinema in Haymarket, panelists included Actor and BAFTA EE Rising Star nominee Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, Captain Marvel); Director Lyttanya Shannon (BAFTA Breakthrough 2021, Subnormal: A British Scandal) and Siân Fever who has worked as a First Assistant and Previs Editor (BAFTA Crew, The Crown, Wonder Woman).
Into Film and BAFTA are partnering on a variety of career events across the UK this National Careers Week and will be shining a light on the vast range of screen industry careers available for young people. The charities aim to celebrate the UK’s globally recognised reputation for creating some of the most influential films, TV, animation and special effects in the world.
Into Film has also created many curriculum-linked, careers teaching resources to support teachers and their pupils to be found on their free careers hub for schools: www.intofilm/careers.
Education charity, Into Film, is supported by the BFI using National Lottery funding, thanks to National Lottery players, and the UK film industry through Cinema First. The National Lottery raises £36 million each week for good causes across the UK.
