GoodBadMad connects aspirational creatives with experienced screen and stage professionals
Mar 15, 2021
Creative initiative GoodBadMad has released its first podcast season a year after successfully building the platform from the ground up. The team behind the initiative to connect the aspirational with the experienced, providing exclusive content for young creative professionals.
GoodBadMad (GBM) is a creative platform for film, TV and theatre professionals to learn the ins and outs of the industry. GBM partners with various brands and professionals, asking them to
share their own experiences; showcased through a range of media content, podcasts and events that support and encourage the next generation moving into arts.
Realising there was a need for young creatives to truly understand the good, bad, and mad elements of the creative industry, in order to better prepare themselves for a ‘squiggly career
path’, founder and producer Meg Elys saw launching the platform as a no brainer.
“As an aspiring creative, I was finding it difficult to get answers to the questions I had about the industry. GoodBadMad (GBM) is my way of getting answers to those questions and
sharing them with others, also at the beginning of their journeys. Creative mentorship is a rarity. GBM aims to make it accessible and interactive. The arts is an industry full of highs and lows. The lows, all too regularly, make it too difficult for many aspiring creatives to stay on the path they wish to. Only with support, community and educational resources, can we aim to keep them on that path.
“A community builds from many directions, so we aren’t only asking the young creatives to support each other. We are prompting big, established companies and institutions to think about the mentorship they offer, whether it’s on a personal or community level. What would you like to teach the next generation? What impression would you like to make? How would you like the industry to change? Share your lessons far and wide… you never know how many people are looking to learn.”
The platform has grown quickly, having already worked with small independents throughout Europe and the UK, such as Paris International Film Festival, Duart Platform in Croatia, and
The Watermill Theatre, UK.
In their latest collaboration, Meg and the team have aligned with creatives from Marvel, The CW, BBC Sounds & the West End to bring to life Season 1 of the GoodBadMad Podcast. Talking to people across the globe, Meg chats cinematography, costume design, journalistic filmmaking, visual effects and more. The interviews are now live on Spotify & Apple Podcasts, as well as on the website.
