Fujifilm has announced that it will release the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55 worldwide from October.
The filmmaking camera features a large format sensor, with a diagonal length of approximately 55mm.
It is equipped with the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor, which is about 1.7x larger than a standard 35mm sensor, along with the high-speed image processing engine X-Processor 5.
This combination is said to allow filmmakers to capture rich, true-to-life visuals and provides enhanced flexibility in post-production.
Fujifilm added that the camera “delivers exceptional image quality with rich tonal expression, enabling a broader range of visual creativity”.
An overview of the camera’s key features is available below.
- 44 x 33 large format sensor: Equipped with a 102-megapixel large format sensor, the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS, the system supports the use of GF lenses via the G mount. Additionally, by attaching the included PL Mount Adapter G, it becomes compatible with several cinema formats: Premista, 35mm, Anamorphic (35mm), and Super35. The system also supports shooting in a 4:3 open gate format at up to 48 fps, fully utilising the large image circle measuring 43.8mm in width, 32.9mm in height, and 54.8mm diagonally
- F-Log and Film Simulation 3D-LUTs: The GFX ETERNA 55 includes 20 types of Film Simulation to enable diverse visual styles. Additionally, there are 10 Film Simulation conversion 3D-LUTs (compliant with ITU-R BT.709) for precise colour and tone adjustment of footage shot in Log (F-Log2/F-Log2 C)
- Workflow solutions: The GFX ETERNA 55 supports three Apple ProRes* codecs: Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 LT. When recording in Apple ProRes, the camera also enables proxy video recording, including support for Apple ProRes 422 Proxy, allowing for more efficient editing workflows. The GFX ETERNA 55 is also capable of outputting 4:2:2 10-bit uncompressed RAW data, as well as up to 8K/30P 12-bit RAW video via HDMI
- Compact and lightweight body: The body weight has been reduced to approximately 2kg
Fujifilm also announced the release of the FUJINON GF32-90mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR lens.
Like the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55, the lens will ship worldwide in October, and is dubbed as the first power zoom lens for GFX cameras and the first lens in the GF series optimised specifically for motion production.
It inherits the operability and design of the Premista series of high-end cine zoom lenses, yet weighs only approximately 2.1 kg. Despite its compact form, it produces an image circle large enough to fully cover the GFX ETERNA 55 in full GF Open Gate mode.
With its wide-to-standard focal range, this zoom lens aims to reduce the need for frequent lens changes while delivering the clarity and character typically associated with prime lenses.
The GF32-90mmT3.5 minimises optical aberrations, achieving resolution comparable to dedicated prime lenses, and maintains a bright T3.5 aperture throughout the entire zoom range.
When paired with the newly announced GFX ETERNA 55, the GF32-90mmT3.5 is said to open up new possibilities in filmmaking, enabling a more efficient shooting style and greatly expanding creative freedom for filmmakers.
