Jan 20, 2023

Global VFX and creative studio Framestore starts this year’s award season with nine nominations following announcements from the Visual Effects Society (VES) and Annie Awards. The projects shortlisted – Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Top Gun: Maverick, Beast and Slumberland – underline the company’s rich heritage in creating emotionally compelling creature performances, photo-realistic effects and world-building environments. Jumanji: The Adventure and Avengers: Quantum Encounter also nod to the success of Framestore’s Immersive business, pioneering entertaining and adrenaline-fuelled interactive experiences.

Framestore VES Award nominations:

  • Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature – Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and Top Gun: Maverick
  • Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project – Jumanji: The Adventure and Avengers: Quantum Encounter
  • Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature – Beast and Slumberland
  • Outstanding Model in a Photoreal or Animated Project – Top Gun: Maverick
  • Outstanding Compositing and Lighting in a Feature – Top Gun: Maverick

Framestore Annie Award nominations:

  • Best Character Animation – Live Action – Beast

“These nominations represent the hard work of teams that span geographies and disciplines while also operating during a time of notable change,” commented Framestore CEO, Mel Sullivan. “They also speak to the culture of our company, the pride we have in building collaborative teams that solve problems, supporting each other and our clients. We invest in our people and technology; we are committed to R&D and we take risks which, after decades of working alongside some of the world’s greatest storytellers, can be seen in the brilliant work entered and nominated here. Lots more to come.”

Framestore is an award-winning creative studio that blends creative excellence with ground-breaking technical innovation to consistently deliver exceptional visual storytelling. These nominations follow last week’s VFX ‘bake-off’ where two Framestore creative teams made the case for Top Gun: Maverick and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore as contenders for this year’s ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar with  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, another Framestore project, in the running too. Top Gun: Maverick is also up for a Special Visual Effects BAFTA.
