The Film and TV Charity has made four appointments to its Board of Trustees to monitor the organisation’s strategic delivery of its vision and values as it seeks to promote improved mental health, financial, and social wellbeing for the 200,000+ people working behind the scenes in the UK film, TV, and cinema sectors.
Undertaking responsibility to ensure the good governance of the Charity, the Trustees will take an active role in ensuring it is accountable, effective, and working to advance its charitable objectives. The new board members will also provide support aligned to their specific areas of expertise: Catherine Bosworth, Director of Income Generation and Grants at Hospice UK, will help the Charity meet its fundraising targets; Robin Chalmers, Chief Legal Counsel at All3 Media International, will support on legal best practice and related issues; Peter Clark, an investment manager who sits on the Investment Advisory Group for Comic Relief, will provide additional oversight of the organisation’s investments and financial concerns; Emma Hoyle, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Paramount, will focus on the Charity’s strategic approach to team structure and associated human resources matters.
With previous roles at Stonewall, CBS and Mindshare, Bosworth brings extensive experience to the board and will chair a new Development Committee to support the Charity’s individual and corporate fundraising strategies. She said: “I am incredibly excited to join the Charity as it builds on foundations laid in the last few years to help many thousands more people across the film and TV industry it supports. By working closely with a brilliant Development team, we can evolve the organisation’s fundraising culture and reach ambitious but achievable goals built around a model that sees an intrinsic link between donor and beneficiary.”
Having worked at industry-leading organisations, Fremantle, Channel 4, and BBC Studios, Chalmers’ responsibilities will include advising the Charity on all legal considerations, working closely with both the CEO, Alex Pumfrey, and the Director of Finance and Operations. He said “I am really looking forward to supporting the Charity’s incredible work promoting best working practices and positive mental health in the industry. Whilst the Charity works to achieve its objectives to support many more beneficiaries, I will work with both the board and the executive team particularly to provide support, guidance and advice on legal matters, as well as to help ensure the safeguarding of both beneficiaries and employees.”
With a career in investment management, Clark brings his extensive expertise to the board and will support the oversight of the Charity’s investment portfolio, ensuring investments are made that align with the Charity’s strategy, values and principles. Joining the Finance Committee, he will guide the development of its Investment Policy and help promote ethical investing. Of his appointment Clarke said, “With the vital work the Charity does, I am delighted to be joining its board of trustees. By working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations, I will ensure the Charity continues to make positive, ethical investments, which will complement its fundraising income and help the Charity to achieve its goals and objectives.”
Hoyle will support the Charity’s work to build an inclusive culture that represents the diversity, experiences, perspectives and skills of the industry. Previously at BBC Studios, Channel 4 and agency JWT, Hoyle will be working closely with the Charity’s HR team and will also join its Appointments and Remuneration Committee. She said, “I cannot wait to begin to work with both the Charity and the Board of Trustees to develop the focus on representation and inclusivity and to help build a team that echoes the diversity that needs to be seen across film, TV and cinema.”
The new appointments join the Charity’s existing eight trustees, also from various sectors of the business, screen and entertainment industries. They include: Andrew Wilson-Mouasher, Acting Chair, Divisional General Manager Wales and Southern England, Marie Curie UK; Joseph a. Adesunloye, Award-winning indie Screenwriter and Director; Sara Putt, Founder and Managing Director of Sara Putt Associates; Juliet Gilkes Romero, award-winning writer for stage and screen; Deborah Rozansky, Health and Social Care Consultant; Kirsty Good, Director, Brunswick; Suki Gill, CFO, International, Paramount; and Cameron Saunders, Director of Entertainment, Sky.
The Charity’s CEO, Alex Pumfrey, said: “Following a period of important evolution and development within the charity, we are delighted to welcome Catherine, Robin, Peter and Emma to our Board of Trustees.
