Cinema Audio Society supports Safe&Sound Ukraine fundraiser

Apr 25, 2022

A Ukrainian sound mixer has created Safe&Sound Ukraine, a fundraiser aiming to support secure communication in the war zone, thereby helping civilians evacuate and evade harm.

Donations go to United Help Ukraine, a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation. Safe&Sound Ukraine has already raised $58,583 of its $200,000 goal simply by reaching out to the global sound community.

Cinema Audio Society has donated and become an official partner and supporter of Safe&Sound Ukraine.

CAS joins other global filmmaking and sound engineering communities, including: Association of Motion Picture Sound, Gotham Sound, LA Sound Mixers, and Motion Picture Sound Editors, in supporting Safe&Sound Ukraine.

CAS President Karol Urban says that the support comes with unanimous board approval. “CAS is proud to join others in the sound community to support the humanitarian efforts of Safe & Sound Ukraine,” she said. “We applaud all that Xenia and her colleagues are doing to improve the lives of the affected citizens in Ukraine.”

Xenia Vinogradova, a Kyiv-based production sound mixer who co-founded the effort, explains, “Safe&Sound Ukraine will purchase robust encrypted walkie-talkies and satellite phones for Ukrainian medics, volunteers, and evacuation coordinators on the ground.”
