Cannes Uncut documentary to celebrate rich history of the film festival
Jul 1, 2021
A feature documentary is in the works that will chronicle the cultured history of the Cannes Film Festival. The film promises to delve behind the scenes of the famously glamorous event and will release in time for the fest’s 75-year anniversary in 2022.
Cannes Uncut comes from producer Colin Burrows, critic and film festival executive Mark Adams, journalist Chris Pickard and photographer-director Richard Blanshard. The team will be in Cannes this year to film new footage and conduct interviews. They said they are now in discussions with sales agents.
The project will look at the numerous outlandish and dramatic events that the French Riviera has witnessed over its three-quarters of a century history from spectacular promotional stunts to glamorous red-carpet appearances and infamous parties.
“The Cannes Film Festival is famous as an event brimming with stories and characters as outlandish and dramatic as the films that have premiered there, and Cannes Uncut will celebrate the great films as well as the wild parties; the spectacular promotional stunts as well as the iconic talents; the glorious successes and the infamous failures,” they said in the film announcement. “This is the documentary that dares to detail all the glamour, red carpets, craziness, deals, parties, movies, and personalities that saw the business of show business implant itself at the Cannes Film Festival. It offers an exciting high-adrenaline, roller-coaster experience of what has played out over the years.”
