Calling all filmmakers looking to shoot their next short on celluloid
Oct 22, 2024
In the words of Oscar-winning cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema (Oppenheimer): “To all aspiring filmmakers out there, I would like to say please try shooting with that incredible, new, hip thing called “celluloid”. It’s much easier than you think. And it makes things look so much better.”
From Hollywood to indies, music videos to commercials, celluloid film is rightly enjoying an exciting revival. It’s music to the ears for those of us who are desperate to ensure analog film never becomes “a thing of the past”.
Part of its survival is dependent on the medium being accessible for upcoming, indie filmmakers. And that’s why Silver Screen and Kodak, along with Cinelab Film & Digital, Arri Rental and Company 3, are teaming up to support short film creatives.
With the generous backing of these four industry stakeholders, Silver Screen have created the ultimate analog film fund, to dramatically reduce the costs involved when shooting on film. The package, which can be won by up to three filmmaking teams a year, comprises of:
- 5 days Arri Rental camera and lens hire package (inc. a 1 day test shoot)
- 1600 ft (4 cans) 16mm Kodak film stock
- 1600ft of free processing at Cinelab Film & Digital
- 6hrs of grading by a colorist at COMPANY 3
So far the fund has supported two short films, which are now in post-production, with a third being shot later this year. Anyone is welcome to submit a script and treatment, via FilmFreeway, for consideration. All the companies can’t wait to see what exciting talent and projects they’ll be supporting next!
