The newly inaugurated Documentary Audience Award will be given to a single documentary film within the Wide Angle – Documentary competition section, with an award grant of KRW 10,000,000. The recipient will be selected based on audience vote, in recognition of popular and artistic appeal.
Currently, the Busan International Film Festival has two audience awards, in the New Currents and Flash Forward sections, which showcase the first or second features of filmmakers from Asian and Non-Asian backgrounds, respectively. The ‘Documentary Audience Award’ will mark the first audience award of BIFF to put the limelight on documentary films.
The Wide Angle – Documentary competition section is a core section of the BIFF program, showcasing outstanding documentary films that offer original perspectives and distinct visions. By bringing the audience closer to documentary films, this award hopes to promote and popularise documentary filmmaking and further support Korean and Asian filmmakers in pursuing their creative endeavours.
The 29th Busan International Film Festival will take place for ten days, from Oct 2 (Wed) to Oct 11 (Fri), at Busan Cinema Center and its surrounding areas.
