The British Society of Cinematographers invites you to apply to join them for an industry training workshop at the London Screen Academy.
Taking place on 13th & 14th January, the workshop will offer an unrivalled introduction into the Camera, Lighting , Grip & DIT departments for 80 participants, delivered by those already working in the industry.
The workshop will allow successful applicants to develop practical skills to use on set, introduce the roles within the camera, lighting, grip and DIT departments on a variety of different types of production (e.g. film, television, commercials) and build the skills to take on an entry level role in one of those departments. In addition to the training, successful applicants will have access to industry and peer networking opportunities, building a supportive industry community.
Working within the camera, lighting, grip and DIT departments offers a rewarding, creative and technical career and is suitable for those with a passion for film, a hardworking and collaborative work ethic, and those who like to embrace practical challenges. You can make a good living in a variety of roles under the banner of cinematography, as well as gaining recognition for performing a skilled role within a supportive industry.
Example workshops will include;
• Camera and Lens workshop – practical experience with industry-standard camera systems, and work with various lens technology and formats in small groups, maximising your ability to learn fundamental concepts.
• Lighting workshop – learn about the Magic of Light: take part in a hands-on workshop breaking down types of lighting, lighting fixtures, electrical distribution and their impact on an image.
Who is the Workshop for?Â
The workshop is for people over 18 years old with a demonstrable interest in working in the camera, lighting or grip department. These workshops are aimed to support those who otherwise would not have a clear route into the industry and who may face barriers to starting a career in Film & TV. This workshop is not suitable for those who have already had a number of fully paid jobs on productions or who attended the previous BSC x LSA Weekend.
You must be available to attend on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January at the London Screen Academy in Highbury, London.
We are committed to diversifying the screen industries and increasing the diversity of this cohort is an important step towards this goal. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds, of any sexual or gender identity, neurodiverse applicants, adults of any age or religious belief and encourage applications from people with a disability.
BursaryÂ
Bursaries are available for applicants who could not otherwise attend without funding (e.g. loss of earnings, caring responsibilities, prohibitive travel or accommodation costs). Please indicate in your application if you would like to apply for the Bursary.
