Brick and Mortar, a cutting-edge boutique picture post-production company, announces its official launch at the Berlinale on Thursday, February 15th.
Situated in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland, Brick and Mortar aims to present a new high-end post-production offering for feature filmmakers in Europe and beyond with a
particular focus on offline editorial, 4k HDR colour grading and picture finishing services. The organisation has made significant up-front investments in the latest offline and picture-finishing technology, including Baselight systems and Scotland’s first and only DCI compliant grade auditorium.
Brick and Mortar describes itself as a boutique where the creative experience takes priority, the highly experienced editorial and colour teams all aim to promote a tailor made, personal environment where directors and DoPs can put their images in safe hands and create their best work, all while being able to offer highly competitive services to the standard of the best that London can offer. Prior to the official announcement, the team have been quietly operating for the past year on a slew of high-end commercials as well as their first five feature films, including Leonora in the Morning Light and Spilt Milk.
What sets Brick and Mortar apart is its investment in state-of-the-art technology, ensuring that filmmakers have access to the latest advancements in the industry. The facility is equipped with Baselight colour grading systems, providing unparalleled precision and flexibility for their colour department, led by Senior Colourist Tom Cairns (ex-Molinaire, Twickenham Film Studios, Dirty Looks). From their main facility at Trinity House in Glasgow, the company houses a catalogue of new and comfy offline suites as well as two advanced Baselight grading theatres, high-end remote review facilities and advanced media storage and management solutions.
One of the flagship features of Brick and Mortar, and the post-production landscape in Scotland going forward, is their co-ownership of Scotland’s first DCI compliant grading and Dolby mixing theatre with the great team at Savalas Post. The new theatre is based in Film City and is the first ever dual-purpose theatrical projector-based grading and mixing environment of its kind in the country, offering filmmakers a unique and immersive environment for the final stages of colour grading and mixing and a major incentive for feature productions to conduct everything from dailies and VFX reviews up to theatrical grades and final mixes in the country.
“After a lengthy R&D phase over the last few years, we’re really excited and honoured to introduce Brick and Mortar to the market at Berlinale in what is shaping up to be a propulsive year for feature film production in Scotland. We’re starting out with a truly great team driving some really exciting new suites and technology, with the only projector-based grading theatre in the country we’re looking to attract some great filmmakers to cut, grade and mix their films in Scotland with ourselves and with the sound expertise available through Savalas’ audio department.” said Jack Lang, Co-founder and Editor at Brick and Mortar.
