Led by VFX Supervisor Richard Frazer, BlueBolt delivered 125 VFX shots to help recreate the hard-hitting and perilous world of Victorian London’s boxing scene for the first season of Disney Original series A Thousand Blows, created by Steven Knight.
As the main VFX studio on the project, BlueBolt created digital environment work for key story locations from set extensions to a full CG dockside environment – extending the purpose built backlot at Mortlake and existing period warehouse buildings onto and down the existing Thames riverside, transforming it into the bustling Wapping Docks of East London. The work also included a CG aerial London cityscape and enhancing the brutal bare-knuckle boxing fights.
In addition, BlueBolt created 107 VFX shots for the much anticipated season two of A Thousand Blows. With the two seasons (twelve episodes in total) shot back to back and the VFX created in the same timescale, the team had to work simultaneously across episodes that were preparing to shoot as well as delivering final VFX on others – collaborating with six directors alongside showrunner Tom Miller, to support continuity and ensure the look of key locations and environments were consistent.
