Blitz to open EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2024

The Opening Gala, scheduled for November 16, 2024, at CKK Jordanki in Toruń, Kujawy-Pomorze Region, will feature a screening of Blitz directed by the Academy and BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen.

The Apple Original Film, Blitz, follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.

The film is the latest work of the Academy and BAFTA Award-winning from director Steve McQueen, known for his acclaimed films such as 12 Years a Slave, Widows and the film anthology series, Small Axe. The cast includes Saoirse Ronan, Harris Dickinson, Paul Weller, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, and newcomer Elliott Heffernan. The production also features contributions from esteemed film professionals, including composer Hans Zimmer, and costume designer Jacqueline Durran, production designer Adam Stockhausen and Director of Photography Yorick Le Saux. Le Saux, recognized for his visually stunning work in films that include A Bigger Splash, Only Lovers Left Alive and Little Women, brings his unique cinematic vision to Blitz, enhancing the film’s evocative portrayal of wartime London.

The screening of Blitz will be one of the highlight of this year’s festival, which consistently attracts some of the most outstanding filmmakers from around the globe. This year’s EnergaCAMERIMAGE will be an extraordinary event, once again bringing together film enthusiasts in Toruń, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region to celebrate the beauty and diversity of cinema.
