Blackmagic Design has announced DaVinci Resolve 21, a “significant update” introducing a new Photo page, which enables colourists and photographers to use Hollywood’s “most advanced colour tools for still photos”.

Other updates include new AI tools such as IntelliSearch for fast content searching, CineFocus for focal point adjustment, and tools for facial refinement.

The Krokodove toolset adds over 70 new graphics to Fusion, Fairlight folders simplify audio track management, plus there are improvements to keyframing, MultiMaster trim passes and more.

Most notably, though, DaVinci Resolve’s post-production workflow now fully integrates photo image editing.

The new Photo page lets customers import and manage photographs, integrating with the colour page for node based grading.

“Now, colourists and photographers can use Hollywood colour grading tools on still images,” Blackmagic said.

Users can make the most of primary colour correction, curves, qualifiers, power windows and node editor to adjust colour in artistic ways across an entire project.

Plus, customers can use a DaVinci colour panel to adjust multiple parameters at once.

“DaVinci Resolve’s powerful node based workflow can now be used on still images,” the organisation continued. “It’s possible to add nodes in series or parallel to build complex grades, apply different corrections to different parts of an image simultaneously and use shared nodes to apply the same look across an entire album of photos at once.

“The Photo page lets customers reframe and crop images at their original source resolution and aspect ratio.

“Every adjustment preserves the full quality of their original file, so customers can refine their composition at any time without ever affecting image quality.”
