BIFA has announced that Warp Films will receive this year’s Special Jury Prize, following the global success of Netflix series Adolescence

The Special Jury Prize recognises individuals or organisations for their outstanding contribution within the British independent film industry.

BIFA said: “Proudly independent and Yorkshire through and through, Warp have been behind countless legendary, BIFA-recognised British films including This Is England, Dead Man’s Shoes, Submarine and Four Lions

“If that wasn’t enough, this year they also brought us multi-Emmy award-winning Adolescence, the most watched show in the world in the first half of 2025.”

The award was selected by two independent juries, with members including Charlotte Regan, Lolly Adefope, Daniel Mays and Tom Harper.

Previous recipients of the award include Fully Focussed, We Are Parable, Raising Films, Open Door, Horace Ové, Jenne Casarotto and Ken Loach.

Continuing its mission of “championing local voices and creative talent from working class backgrounds”, Warp recently unveiled a new paid internship scheme with Screen Yorkshire.

Through this programme, it hopes to provide the next generation of South Yorkshire creatives the opportunity to get real experience in the film and TV industry, providing training, support and connections to build their skills and network.

BIFA also recently revealed the winners of its craft awards, with Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC ISC scooping Best Cinematography for Die My Love.
