Oct 14, 2021

The cinematographer’s credits include In the Heights, Tick, Tick… Boom! and Home Before Dark.

After spending her early childhood in New York City, new ASC member Alice Brooks moved to Los Angeles, where she attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts. There, she met a young director who would become a lifelong collaborator, Jon M. Chu. Early in their careers, Brooks and Chu collaborated on three seasons of the web series The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (aka The LXD) before teaming up on the feature Jem and the Holograms and the pilot of the Apple Plus series Home Before Dark.

Recently, Brooks collaborated again with Chu on the musical feature In the Heights, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning stage musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes. Following this, Miranda — who was impressed with Brooks’ work on the feature — asked her to photograph his feature directorial debut, Tick, Tick… Boom!, an adaptation of the stage musical by Jonathan Larson.
