The cinematographer’s credits include the series The Exorcist, Watchmen and the upcoming The Lord of the Rings.
Born in New Hampshire, new ASC member Alex Disenhof first discovered a love of making images through his grandfather’s photography darkroom. He attended Emerson College to study film and relocated to Los Angeles after graduation to start his career.
Early on, Disenhof earned a Camerimage nomination for Best Cinematography in a Music Video for his work on Hammock’s “Mono No Aware.” After photographing the features Funeral Kings and Emoticon, Disenhof got his break shooting Michel Gondry’s feature The We and the I, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival. In 2014, after shooting such features as Fishing Without Nets and Sticky Notes, the cinematographer was featured in Variety’s “Below the Line Impact Report.” He was featured again in Variety’s 2016 edition of the report. His other feature credits include Vincent N Roxxy, Captive State and Code 8.
In 2017, Disenhof shot the pilot and series of Fox’s The Exorcist, which earned him an ASC Award nomination for Best Cinematography in a Television Movie, Miniseries or Pilot. For his camerawork on the pilot of City on a Hill, he earned another Camerimage nomination. His other television work includes an episode of the FX series Legion; the season finale of HBO’s Watchmen; and the pilot and series of the Apple Plus show The Mosquito Coast.
His forthcoming credits include the feature Alice and Amazon Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings.
