Megapixel VR announces collaboration with NVIDIA

Apr 20, 2023

Megapixel VR is announcing an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA to increase interoperability between their collective product ranges and further drive the adoption of SMPTE ST 2110.

Megapixel and NVIDIA already offer industry-leading SMPTE ST 2110 capable products – including the NVIDIA ConnectX SmartNIC, BlueField DPU and Rivermax SDK, and the Megapixel HELIOS® LED Processing Platform.

Jeremy Hochman, Co-founder and CEO of Megapixel says: “We’ve collaborated with NVIDIA since the beginning of our 8K platform testing. NVIDIA offers cutting-edge GPU technology for the professional market, and it was a natural fit to test this technology early on in our development process. The first time HELIOS was able to ingest four simultaneous SMPTE ST 2110 streams was at NVIDIA’s lab back in 2021 when we were still in private beta. I’m very excited to see where our teams take things next.”

SMPTE ST 2110 has been adopted as the new standard for audio-visual over internet protocol in broadcast. NVIDIA is simplifying and accelerating the transition to ST 2110 standards with NVIDIA RTX GPUs and networking solutions – production-proven technologies leading the industry’s adoption of IP video and data network infrastructure. Megapixel’s HELIOS is the first and only LED processor on the market capable of native SMPTE ST 2110 inputs. The HELIOS community can benefit from a SMPTE ST 2110 workflow simply by purchasing a new input module for their HELIOS unit from Megapixel. Furthermore, HELIOS processors can be used directly with graphics workstations equipped with NVIDIA ConnectX SmartNICs or BlueField DPUs. Customers can have full confidence in Megapixel’s commitment to interoperability and customer support, along with NVIDIA’s.

NVIDIA has played a leading role in SMPTE ST 2110 adoption within the industry by providing the Rivermax SDK and other programming tools to ease application integration.

Ian Williams, Director of Professional Visualization Applied Engineering at NVIDIA, says: ”The expansion of native SMPTE ST 2110 adoption into virtual production and broadcast LED backdrops will lead to new industry capabilities. Combining NVIDIA GPUs and rendering technology with high-bandwidth NVIDIA SmartNICs and Megapixel’s HELIOS platform completely abstracts video flows and creates a truly software-defined raster over IP, seamlessly blending the virtual world with reality.”
