6P Color named SXSW Innovation Award finalist for Full Color Range system
Mar 7, 2023
6P Color’s Full Color Range™ System has been named one of five finalists in the Media category of the sixth annual Innovation Awards to be held during SXSW 2023.
Full Color Range (FCR) ends the limitations of standard RGB displays and workflows, enabling viewers to experience the full-color spectrum that creatives capture using today’s ultra-sensitive camera sensors. Hollywood-based cinematographer Steven Poster ASC says, “FCR is a color system that allows the audience to really feel the emotional message that only true and complete color can impart.”
The Full Color Range (FCR) system offers an unprecedented viewing experience by providing nearly full spectrum color to various displays including monitors, LED walls, and digital projectors. This end-to-end color system starts with captured or generated scene data from a camera or CG render. The Full Color Range system processes and transports all captured or created colors to displays using established tools, formats, and standards.
While standard RGB P3 displays reproduce 45 percent of visible colors, 6P Color’s 81” demonstration display, equipped with an additional primary beyond the standard RGB, shows over 75 percent. The result is an ultra-wide color gamut offering a new frontier of aesthetic and creative possibility, with applications spanning filmmaking, live production, gaming, and medical imaging. Other color primaries are in lab development.
For the first time, attendees can view the Full Color Anthem video and other imagery on 6P Color’s demo display. All content being shown was captured by standard cameras, or generated using existing computer graphics workflows, and processed via the proprietary FCR Yxy pipeline.
The Finalist Showcase will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the JW Marriott Austin, in Griffin Hall, 110 E 2nd St, Austin.
