Winners of the MIA Awards 2024 announced

The tenth edition of MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo concluded with a successful awards ceremony, reflecting a vibrant growth in attendance and project submissions. Organised by ANICA and APA, and directed by Gaia Tridente, this year’s event attracted over 2,800 participants from 60 countries, marking a 10% increase from 2023.

The Co-Production Market and Pitching Forum received over 600 project submissions, a 20% rise from last year, with entries coming from 90 different countries, up from 80. MIA also saw a 30% growth in Instagram followers and a 16% increase on LinkedIn, enhancing its online presence.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, MIA introduced the MIA Development Awards, which recognised four outstanding projects across various categories. The MIA Development Award for Outstanding Animation Project was awarded to Big Bang Parade, produced by a collaborative team from Belgium, Poland, and France. For documentary, the award went to Reborn-Perfect Love, exploring the niche of reborn dolls. The drama category honoured The Night Watch, set in Amsterdam, while the film project award went to Death in Your Eyes, directed by Guillermo de Oliveira.

Additional accolades included the Paramount New Stories Award for Aya in the Desert and the GEDI Visual Award for La Vita Che Mi Diedi. The Screen International Award went to Father/Otec, a poignant film currently in post-production.

Emerging projects were highlighted, such as Uglycomics/Fumettibrutti, which won the WIFTMI Award for its focus on gender equality, and the Carlo Bixio Award for Best Series Concept awarded to Chukar, reflecting on love and social issues in contemporary Rome.
