Wicked to close EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2024

Oct 10, 2024

Only days are left for this year’s edition of the International Film Festival EnergaCAMERIMAGE, which will held in Toruń, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The festival will conclude on Saturday, November 23rd, with a special screening of Universal Pictures’ new film adaptation of the beloved stage musical Wicked, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu, director of Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights. This spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event features cinematography by Alice Brooks, ASC known from tick, tick… BOOM! and In the Heights, a frequent participant of EnergaCAMERIMAGE.

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner and Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a young woman gilded by privilege who has yet to discover her true heart. As they forge an unlikely friendship, their adventures will see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. The film also features performances by Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Olivier Award winner and Emmy nominee Jonathan Bailey, and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum, who portrays the Wizard of Oz.

The film is based on the musical stage play with music and lyrics by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, from the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire. The film’s stunning prodution design was created by six-time Oscar® nominee Nathan Crowley – this year’s recipient of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Production Designer Award. Crowley, the production designer for such hits as Dunkirk and The Dark Knight, will be one of the festival’s guests along with cinematographer Alice Brooks, who will introduce the film. After the screening, both Crowley and Brooks will participate in a Q&A session, sharing behind-the-scenes insights into the making of this spectacular production. The beautiful cinematography by dear to us Alice Brooks, so well-known at EnergaCAMERIMAGE, will transport us into the film’s extraordinary world of Oz.

We couldn’t imagine a better cinematic finale for this year’s edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE. We are confident that this special screening will provide unforgettable experiences and will be remembered by all viewers for a long time. Universal Pictures’ Wicked arrives in theaters worldwide November 22, 2024.
